any of your questions. Each week we "Fly Over" a suburb, check out the
history and find out about real estate in that area.
Holland Park, QLD
This week Kevin flies us to Holland Park, 7 km South of the Brisbane CBD. This suburb is all about proximity. It’s close to parks and cafes, Garden City - and Brisbane city. Holland Park is also graced with a high elevation making it pleasant on the hottest days in summer. This is an older suburb made of largely post-World War II wooden homes. In fact over 89% of dwellings are houses. Over 40% of households in this area are comprised of couples with children and a further 20% are single parent families. You’ll find workers cottages through to more modern brick and tile homes in this area as well as plenty of generous-sized back yards.
One of Brisbane’s first major roads, Logan Road, bisects the suburb. There were once trams plying this route, but they were replaced with buses in 1969.
RP Data reports that last quarter 129 houses were sold for the median price of $495,000. This is a 12-month growth of 21.3%. There were no units sold.
Caringbah, NSW (corrected)
This week we flyover Caringbah, a suburb 24 km South of the Sydney CBD, is an Aboriginal word for the pademelon wallaby. This once bushy area was first named Highfield but Caringbah came into use in 1911 when steam trams began operating between Cronulla and Sutherland. Caringbah is a central suburb of the Sutherland Shire and consists of a mixture of residential, commercial and industrial areas. The commercial district is made up mostly of small businesses specialising in professional services. A large commercial and industrial area is also centred on Taren Point Road and surrounding areas. According to RP Data more than 215 houses were sold in the last quarter, for a median price of $728,750, posting a 12 month growth of 4.7%. Of the 328 units sold last quarter, they fetched a median price of $420,000, which is a 12 month growth of 8.6%. "
